Are We Too Dependent on Google.

As internet marketers we constantly obsess over ranking in Google. But should we? Don't get me wrong. Being on page one of Google for your keywords is important and held drive traffic. But in our quest to reach the pinnacle of keyword success are we missing the point? Also! Are we placing focus in the wrong place to the detriment of core business?

I teach the importance of ranking high on the first page of Google, but I get so many questions from people obsessing about it.

I'm not on page one yet for my keyword, what I am doing wrong

I can't find any suitable keywords

What you should be concentrating on is producing good content. Valuable insights and answers to your readers questions. Concentrate on creating engaging content and the rest will follow. Get hang up on finding the perfect keywords and you will miss the point. Google just want good engaging content. If people are engaged with your content they will stay longer on your site. Google likes this. If people think your content has something to say they will share across the social networks. Google like this.

Google is doing everything it can to clean up the search engines from all the old rushed, respun, low quality content. They brought in Google Panda, Google penguin, Google Hummingbird. SEO experts offered fixes and solutions. But all we are doing is trying to kid the search engines. When the real easy answer to success has not changed. Quality content.

Great Email Marketing Tips

It's not enough to just have email marketing in place - you need to make sure you do it as well as possible.

A quick Google search will show you that hundreds of people are out there giving it a shot on a regular basis, but if you're even remotely serious about making a profit with an affiliate marketing campaign, you want to put your own strategies into high gear.

So, without further ado, here are 5 highly successful tips that I've been using for the last few years to turbo-charge my email marketing campaigns.

1. Brevity and the Hook

It's no secret that people these days have less patience than any other generation in history.

They're used to seeing what they need, absorbing what they can from it and moving on in a matter of seconds.

The average piece of text has between 3-10 seconds to hook a reader and an email has, at most, 51 seconds to make its point. That's not a lot of time.

So, an email newsletter is not the time to write an epic report on the advantages or value of any given tool you may have developed or an article you wrote.

To start with, you need to hit your readers with a powerful hook. The place to do this is both in the subject line and in the first line of your email.

Too many people assume that a powerful subject line is all they need, but the subject line only gets someone to open the email, not read it.

Always include the first name of the prospect, which you should have gathered with your opt-in form. For Aweber, you can use the {!firstname_fix} tag to insert it into a message or subject.

Then, use a hook that speaks to the needs of your

Questions, bold statements, or lists of valuable topics can be good hooks, but the simplest and most successful method is simply to state how the email will benefit them.

On top of capturing attention, don't expect to be able to hold it for more than a minute. Keep your message short - less than 400 words and oftentimes much shorter.

With a webpage, you can use images and links to hold attention, but in email, text is all you get and it needs to be brief.

2. Make it Scannable

Along the same lines as brevity, you need to make sure your messages are nice and scannable. This should be easy enough - it's the same rule you use for your landing pages.

The good old fashioned wall of text doesn't get the jobdone in the modern world of short attention spans.

Use short lines, line breaks, and hyphens to break up text. Here's a good example for you:

Dog training is no walk in the park. You're probably ripping your hair out right now trying to figure out how to get your dog off the couch or away from your trash. But, it doesn't need to be like that. It starts with
taking control of your dog - being the alpha leader and holding their attention long enough to instil confidence. First, you need to create a pack structure in your home. Then, you need to develop a training routine to show your dog how to respond to your commands. Then, you need to be persistent. Click here for my free report on finally taking control of your house as the alpha leader.

This wall of text is full of information, but someone just scanning their email might completely miss it.

Here is how it should look with the right formatting:

Dog Training is No Walk in the Park

You're probably ripping your hair out right now trying
to figure out how to get your dog off the couch or away
from your trash.

But, it doesn't need to be like that.

It starts with taking control of your dog - being the
alpha leader and holding their attention long enough to
instil confidence.

1. You need to create a pack structure in your home.

2. You need to develop a training routine to show your
dog how to respond to your commands.

3. You need to be persistent.

Click here for my free report on finally taking control
of your house as the alpha leader.

It's broken up, the headline is underlined and the key points are numbered out to see exactly what the reader will gain by clicking on that link.

They can scan it in a few seconds and decide whether to read the whole thing or click on the link.

3. Active, Action Oriented Voice

I can't count how many newsletters I've read with passive, boring voice. If you plan on telling someone to do something at the end of your emails, you need to keep the voice active, pumping energy into your writing.

What do I mean by active voice? Here's an example. The first one is a passive voice

You will want to spend time trying to teach your dog to respect you.

Now, look at the exact same sentence with active verbs

Train your dog to respect you.

It's that simple. Instead of all the qualifiers and wishy-washy sentences you go straight to the point and share an action your reader can follow. This way, when you say "visit my site", it appears more natural and they're
primed to follow your lead.

4. Enough Content...But Not Too Much

Email marketing is a tricky business because it needs to be full of useful information, but too much can water down whatever you're trying to sell.

My usual advice here is to provide a single, tangible piece of advice in every email you write. This ensures that you always have a piece of valuable information, but not so much as to overwhelm your readers or dilute what you're selling.

It also ensures your messages are never too short. Sure, they need to be less than 400 words, but 150 words is too short if you're trying to offer sound advice.

5. The Call to Action

Every single email you write should have a solid, powerful call to action. I know what you're thinking - "but I thought I wasn't supposed to hard sell in every email".

I'm not talking about hard selling. I'm talking about a call to action. Not every call to action needs to say "buy me".

But, every email needs to elicit some reaction from your reader to keep them engaged and prepare them to make the big leap when you finally do say "buy me".

Examples I've used before include calling someone to return to your blog for a long article that wouldn't fit in an email or having them visit a news site to read about a niche related topic.

You could also call them to take action on a particular piece of advice you wrote in an email, or solicit them to keep reading and check for your next email in X days.

Marketing via email is an extremely powerful tool. But, it needs to be done in a way that speaks to the needs and desires of your readers.

They're short on time, limited in patience, and only willing to do so much at your command. So, be brief, make it scannable, provide value, and always give them a tangible action to complete.

I can all but guarantee that if you do that, you'll see higher conversion rates and lower unsubscribe rates.

Video Marketing Strategies – [Bonus Training]

Here at the Internet Marketing Bootcamp I have talked before about the importance of using video marketing strategies as one of your key internet marketing strategies. Using video is very powerful because it is effective at a number of levels. It ranks easily, it drives traffic, it engages people - and it can help build and establish your brand - especially if the brand is YOU. i.e. you are trying to become an online authority in your niche or market. You can do that easily with video marketing. Add to all of this that you can do it for free, and you have the second biggest search engine to publish your videos (YouTube) - you can begin to see just how powerful video marketing is.
Check out the video where I go into more detail about using video marketing as one of your key marketing strategies.

Internet Marketing Strategies - Video Marketing from Lewis Clifford on Vimeo. Video marketing is ESSENTIAL if you are going to be successful at internet marketing, building a list, creating leads. You can rank quickly, and rank high in the search engines.

You can become an authority in your niche or area. That is why I use video marketing - and YOU should to. Want to know how powerful making videos can be. Then check out the Lauren Luke story. How a shy, nervous, single parent mum, became a global makeup brand - just by recording little videos and uploading them on Youtube.

Want to know how easy it is to rank on page 1 of Google. Just look at this screen shot for a search I did on "How To Make $5,000 Per Month" - My videos take up the first 4 spots on Google Page 1. That is with no back linking, and just sharing a little on social media. That is powerful stuff.

Video Marketing Has EVOLVED

Video marketing had to evolve. It was inevitable.

As many of you know, here at the Internet Marketing Bootcamp, I use video for my internet marketing. A lot. WHY? Because it is easy to sit in front of a camera and say a few things, and video is compelling and people engage with video much more.

However, it was becoming much too complicated. And if it isn't too complicated for some people, it's still definitely too time consuming.

You had to worry about the following:

  • Redoing videos over and over again to make sure you got everything right in one take or face the daunting task of loading your raw video into Camtasia or another editor to make everything perfect.
  • Making sure your videos were optimized for the web (So they looked good and didn't take too long to start playing).
  • Having a different mobile version of your videos to show users of iPhone, iPad, Android and other mobile devices (More and more people are doing most of the web viewing from their smart phones and other mobile devices).
  • Basically using "duct-tape" to try and put all the pieces together with Camtasia, Screenflow, Jing, Handbrake while continually looking for the "perfect" solution to make it all easier or less time consuming.
  • Uploading large files to your own server, Youtube, Amazon S3 or other video hosting service.
  • Getting the proper code in place to display your videos with the hope that mobile devices would be able to see the mobile version of your video.
  • Sometime my poor little laptop found all this video work TOO hard ....

Well, someone has finally done something about it - THANK GOODNESS.

Josh Bartlett, the creator of the industries leading video player called Easy Video Player, has truly done something innovative in video marketing.

His Easy Video Player software had game-changing features two years ago that other video marketing solutions have just recently tried to introduce.

And on top of that, Josh could boast about the following:

  • Tens of thousands of satisfied customers.
  • The lowest refund rate in the industry for Clickbank (Only 2%).
  • More top marketers and 6 to 7 figure launches use Easy Video Player than anything else. (Mike Filsaime, Chris Farrel, Ryan Deiss, Jason Moffatt, Maria Andros, Justin Brooke, Lewis Clifford (that ME!) to name a few).

Rather than throw in a few, new and "cool" features and re-launch his product simply for the money, he listened to his customers and did something else.

He took over two years and hundreds of thousands of his own dollars to create something that will change the way you market your business with videos.

You'll now be able to record, edit, publish, market and track all your videos with one, easy-to-use solution.

Josh is releasing this all-in-one video marketing solution on January 15th, 2013 with a free video series leading up to the launch.

Watch the first video here.

He's going to reveal the story about his journey and passion that led him to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars from his own pocket to create the ultimate video marketing solution.

And how you can now do the following:

  • Drag and drop your video into a desktop application (Mac and Pc Compatible) that will optimize and convert your video for the web, let you edit if needed, upload it and give you the code to copy and paste to your website.
  • Record your screen or face camera from within this application and even draw on the screen.
  • Never worry about whether users on mobile devices can see your videos (It creates and displays a mobile version of your videos for you).
  • Split test your videos to see which ones are shared the most, have the most engagement and which versions make the most money.

That's just scratching the surface...

What all this ultimately means for you is that marketing your business with videos is going to be much, much easier.

And you'll make a ton more money while having more time to do what you love.

Josh is also going to demonstrate the amazing power of his creation in this series.

So go see how video marketing has evolved.

How To Make A Killing as a Local SEO Consultant

How to Become A Local SEO Consultant

If you have completed the Internet Marketing Bootcamp – then YOU now have an understanding of SEO and Social Media Managament. Sounds grand doesn’t it. And to the uninformed it is. That is why you have a valuable set of skills. A set of skills that has a monetary value – and a set of skills it is easy to market and sell.

You see, not all my business income is through creating affiliate sites. That IS some of it, but not all. I also run a small Local SEO agency, offering basic Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) to local businesses, which want to rank on page one of Google for their key products or services in a particular location.

You see ranking for the keyword “plumber” would be near impossible – but ranking for the keyword “plumber in Swindon” – or your local area, is a lot easier.  The Search Engine competition for “plumber in Swindon” is around 30,000. That is easy to rank for, using the skills taught in the Internet Marketing Bootcamp. Try out some local companies or services in your area. Can be in any country – the basic fundamentals of Ranking on page 1 of Google apply EVERYWHERE.

BUT, you can also offer SO much more than that, you now know how to set up and run a whole social media offering for a local company. You can set up their Facebook page, link to a Twitter account (and YouTube) – and drive business to that particular local service, and allow them to engage with their customers. This could be on an ongoing basis – so you would get a retainer. For just a few hours a month. Get a number of clients and you are sitting pretty.

You and I know HOW easy this is to achieve – we understand the principles taught in the Internet Marketing Bootcamp. SEO works the same whether it is for a Global or local business - with a few minor tweaks.

So how much is this set of skills and knowledge that YOU NOW have? I came across an interview with an SEO consultant in the SEO Journal, and this is what he said:

“1. What price range should a typical small business expect to pay for local SEO, (in house or agency)?

Local SEO via an agency could range from $100/mo for the most basic work all the way up to tens of thousands of dollars per month for a competitive space with hundreds or thousands of locations. Pricing will be based on the competitiveness of your space and the number of locations you have. “

A $100 + a month for the most BASIC of service.  And I mean BASIC. Realistically clients pay $200 to $500 for a basic package, with possibly a retainer on top for ongoing services.

Getting clients is also VERY easy – check out THIS video:

So – remember, if you want to make money online, it is NOT just about affiliate sites. Check OUT the video above, to learn how to build a REAL business based on the foundation of skills in SEO and Social Media Marketing you have learnt in the Internet Marketing Bootcamp.

What is the Best Method of Back Linking?

What is the Best Back Linking Strategy?

Link Building is crucial to when it comes to ranking on the first page of Google. It is not the only thing you need to do, but it is one of the most important. Ranking successfully in Google is requires good quality content, and organically produced quality back links. But what are quality backlinks?

Google itself states:

“Inbound links are links from pages on external sites linking back to your site. Inbound links can bring new users to your site, and when the links are merit-based and freely-volunteered as an editorial choice, they’re also one of the positive signals to Google about your site’s importance.” Google Webmaster Central Blog

Post 2012 Google updates (Panda and Penguin) etc - links need to come from a variety of sources, high PageRank pages and authority sites, and less authority sites. Back links also need to take a number of different forms - some using your main keyword as the "anchor text", some using similar keywords, and some straight to the url address. Having ALL the same type of back link is is a red flag to Google - and many sites (including some of my earlier sites) fell victim to the Google Penguin update.

For example, say your main keyword for what you want to rank for is "Best Workout Videos" - some back links will use "Best Workout Videos" as the anchor text. BUT, you will also want to use other anchor text related to that main keyword (usually what Google suggests when you use the keyword tool) - such as "Dance exercise video", "best fitness dvd" etc.

But of course, not everybody knows how to create an anchor text back link - and normally they would copy a url address and say, " check out this great address" - then add the url link directly:

If you think about it, to do an anchor text backlink requires a little knowledge of html - and most links that are naturally or organically shared, are people sharing an actual page link (i.e. the url) - this tends to be how things are shared in social media (perhaps one of the biggest forms of link sharing). So if all your back links are perefctly constructed "anchor text" back links to the same home page - well, that is going to look a bit suspicious to Google.

With that in mind, many SEO specialists rely on a link building pyramid approach (see picture above) - where you get back links from a variety of sources that are both high quality and low quality sources.  Realistically, it is worth spending time (and you will need to spend time) getting the handful of all important authority page back links. This is where you need to spend the time, and needs to really be done manually. Authority back links have more "link juice" i.e. they appear more important to Google, so you do not need as many. But you must not forget the low quality back-links (of which you will need substantially more). The pyramid approach to back linking shows the sort of spread of back links that you need. A few very high quality back links from high authority pages and social media, and lots of low quality back links.

It is often worth automating the more low quality back-links - so you can concentrate on creating original content, and getting those all important authority back links. That is why it is worth considering some back linking tools like Magic Submitter. The tools such as this are only a small part of your armoury, and should not be seen as a replacement for not getting back links from a range of sources. BUT a tool like Magic Submitter is excellent at doing the "grunt work" of getting lots and lots of  those all important, but tedious, low quality links to your site, that form the base of your pyramid.

Magic Sumbitter automates all those mundane tasks, that allow you to generate

Ranking on the High Seas – Internet Marketing and Google Search Engine

Splice the Main Brace Me' Hearties - Google Storm A Brewin'

Internet Marketing has been through some what choppy water this year. Especially in terms of Off Page Search Engine Optimazation.  With all the changes that Google have made , Google Penguin, Google Panda and the so called Exact Match Domain update to their search engine algorithms.

For many Affiliate marketers, running an online business dependent on Google has been a bit like taking a trip in the boat in this video:

So what can you do? Has it really been that stormy with Google SEO?

Many affiliate marketers, with thin, poorly constructed sites have been hit hard. And some people with more detailed sites have also suffered, caught in the tail wind of the Google SEO storm. BUT, despite all of that, to rank highly in the search engine rankings, and appease the Google gods - those successful have not had to change a lot.

Google's requirements are simple - compelling unique content, that offers something of value in its content to people searching for stuff. Content that is considered worthy, as indicated by it being shared (or linked to) across a wide variety of social media and different Page Rank sites.

Good content will always get this anyway, stuff that feels organically shared and linked to, rather than a sense that it has been "mechanically" shared. Having hundreds of links using the same anchor text, linking back to the same home page - all of these are dead giveaways to Google - and reason why they were caught out by the Google Penguin update.

So as a refresher, here is what GOOGLE wants from sites - in Google's own words:

Do Something cool
Include relevant keywords in your copy
Be smart about your tags and site architecture
Sign up for email forwarding in Webmaster Tools
Attract buzz and natural links, votes, +1s, follows
Stay fresh and relevant (social media sites, accessible on new devices)

That is why, of all the Affiliate Marketing courses and make money online systems - the ONE course that I take MOST seriously, and hence recommend as the ELITE TRAINING on the Internet Marketing Bootcamp is  Unstoppable Affiliate.

That is not say there are other course I don't recommend, especially for beginners. BUT if you have taken the FREE Internet Marketing Training in this Bootcamp, then the ELITE Training of Unstoppable Affiliate will teach you all the detail to start making real money.

How to build authority sites
How to vary your linking strategy
What are the best products to promote as an affilate
Where to get the best products (it is not all CLICKBANK you know!)
How to be Google Penguin and Google Panda friendly.

It is ALL about building a real, and substainable online business. Whether you are looking to make a few hundred dollars a month to pay some bills, or a few thousand to work from home for good. It is still THE best course you can do.

Why Christmas Lights Gangnam Style Shows The Power of Youtube

Christmas Lights Gangnam Style Marketing FAIL!

Want to see the REAL power of video?

So I have an Xmas treat for you (later) - hopefully it'll make you laugh.

But there is an interesting point about all this.
So I came across this AMAZING marketing opportunity - that oddly enough is completey missed
by the creators!!!

Let me explain.... the whole WORLD knows about the success of GANGNAM Style!!!
(if you don't you must be living under a rock!!)
800,000,000 views and rising .....
Nearly 1 BILLION views !!!!!

I have recorded a video that explains an amazing marketing idea using the power of YOUTUBE
and success of GANGNAM STYLE popularity:

[yframe url='']

At the time of writing THIS has over 2 million views ... the video has gone properly VIRAL.
The people who posted this video have a XMAS LIGHTS company...

How much money would YOU have to pay to put your company in front of 2 Million views..
A LOT, and yet with YOUTUBE, all they have had to do is film one of the houses
they have put XMAS lights on, and upload it. SIMPLE.

Just imagine converting ONLY 0.5% of their SALES! That would be 10,000 SALES
or if you ONLY got 0.5% to visit your web site - that would be 10,000 visitors

Now here is THE missed opportunity. They have NOT PUT THEIR LINK under the VIDEO!!!!

You have to go to their channel page to find it!!! FAIL.

ANYWAY, I just wanted to share with you a funny video, but also point out
the enormous power of YouTube video marketing.

No, of course we are not going to all get 2 million views - but YES, YOUTUBE is a REALLY powerful
method to generate traffic and sales.

Here is the GOOD NEWS.

Jeff just reopened the doors and he's accepting new students into
his newest training program for a very limited time.

It's called "Tube Traffic Secrets" and it's all about getting free
traffic and free leads from YouTube.

And judging from the feedback I've heard from the students he
accepted the last time...

It's one of the best traffic-getting and list building training
programs of year.

Check it out:

It's a private membership site and training program where Jeff
teaches you how to tap into the Business-Building Power of YouTube.

He shows you how to get free traffic from YouTube, and then he shows
you how to turn that traffic into leads.

Here's the best part:

Jeff is an AMAZING teacher.

If you want to learn how to build your list, your brand and your
business with YouTube then Jeff is definitely the man for the job.

Highly Recommended:
